    By the way I …
    By the way I respect your well thought opinion. Life is what you make it, you can be whatever you want in life. I have lived and worked in Kenya and other countries and I have seen the difference effective governance and systems make in people lives. Kenya is a rich country, that if governed well, can rise up to many’s amazement. It is frustrating to see people die of hunger while Kenyans highlands are used to plant cash crops, or while politicians steal thousands of bags of maize for a profit.

    @dmulx……. in …
    @dmulx……. in life we are usually told to go to college and save for retirement. I don’t know about you but if that was easy we would all be rich. It sounds so easy when you you explain this solution like the way you do. There are so many factors to be considered but i respect your opinion and i’ll leave it at that.

  3. dmulx says:

    30% tax is …
    30% tax is acceptable with his pay grade. Did you know that among 70k that he/she pays in taxes, only 50% is put in good use, the rest is squandered or lost through corruption. With a less corrupt government and a more equitable tax system from Jua Kali, farmers & politicians, the KRA can double its tax collection and health care cost can be met. The problem is tho’ not lack of money, but lack of competent systems to ensure equitable tax collection and zero tolerance to corruption.

    @dmlux…..Just …
    @dmlux…..Just explain to me where will this money come from.

  5. goo1358 says:

    @dmlux….my basic …
    @dmlux….my basic question is this who will pay for it and how. Are we going to borrow money? I know of a guy in Kenya whose salary is ksh 250,000 . his taxes are 70,000. Do we tax him more. Where is this money going to come from? This solution lies to other things. eg if we eradicate slums thru better housing typhoid, cholera etc will be no more. If the govt allows people to take loans and take themselves to school they can live better lives without govt help and tax more people!!!

  6. dmulx says:

    Kenyans don’t need …
    Kenyans don’t need exaggerated expensive health care system….All that Kenyans need is subsidized medicine for common diseases, like Malaria, HIV AIDS, Cholera….is that too much to ask from a government? and yes, it is not right for any Kenyan to die because he cannot afford medicine. It is inhuman and the Govt has a duty to provide medicine to his people.

  7. dmulx says:

    The cost of health …
    The cost of health care in the U.S is exaggerated. Did you know that if you get a common flu fever in the U.S and you don’t have health insurance, you may end up spending USD3000 dollars or more? while in Kenya you only need a few tablets to suppress the flu and fever at a cost of a few Kenyan Kshs? The main cost of high health care cost in the the US are;
    Exaggerated Pharmaceutical costs, Excessive reimbursement of physicians for procedural skills and a greedy insurance system.

  8. dmulx says:

    Oh, by the way… …
    Oh, by the way…the idea of relying on produce based exports to make us rich is ridiculous and has never worked for over 40 years and will never work. That’s why I say our leaders are incompetent to govern and our Citizens are ignorant.

  9. dmulx says:

    You have a good …
    You have a good point that Kenya is not the richest countries in the World, but you forget that you don’t have to be rich to get access to affordable health care. The last time I checked a doze of Malaria medicine was not a million Kshs, neither was ARVs. The cost of treating flu in the U.S is 20x more than in Kenya. I guess my point is,good health care is not a privilege for the rich, but a right.

  10. goo1358 says:

    @dmulx….either …
    @dmulx….either way someone has to pay for it. Our free education is not “free” it’s paid for by donors. So who will pay for our “affordable health care”. Kenya was once rich today it is not. You can argue this point. rich countries export more than they import. It’s like earning more than you spend. Kenya imports everything from planes, phones, computers, medicine, clothes,shoes,sugar. we export tea, coffee, flowers. So do 40 other countries. How are we rich? we can’t live on debt forever!!

  11. dmulx says:

    The point here is …
    The point here is access to affordable health care not free health care. This can be achieved just like the free Primary education system has been for the past few years. Kenya is a rich country which has been mismanaged for over 40 years and still has a dissent GDP. What the Kenyan citizens in the villages need is affordable/ subsidized medicine for common diseases like Malaria, ARVs for AIDS, common flu, cholera and this is achievable.

  12. goo1358 says:

    @dmlux. US, Britain …
    @dmlux. US, Britain and other countries can afford to do this because 80%+ of their population is working. so the other 20% can live off the 80%. In kenya taxes are paid by 40% of people and you expect them to support poor 60%. Lets common sense reign please!!. Ngilu was minister of health yet she does not even have a degree!! Kenya is so messed up.

  13. goo1358 says:

    @dmulx….lets us …
    @dmulx….lets us consider affordable health care. a person from mathare gets typhoid he goes to hospital. His bill is paid by other Kenyans who are working. gets well and then goes back to the same environment. the cycle repeats itself. This is the story of 60% of unemployed Kenyans. A poor country like Kenya cannot afford this. it’s too expensive. These are politicians talking. Ask an economist to add up the numbers…you will change your mind

  14. dmulx says:

    @siasabora decades …
    @siasabora decades ago, the ability to use a computer was a form of literacy, but with idiot bloggers like you, I doubt that is the case any more. Health care is and should never be a tribal issue, anyone can fall sick including you. After watching kids with heart diseases, women with breast cancers and without money to cater for hospital expenses is a sad affair and the government should provide affordable access to health care and taxing MP salaries would be a good start.

  15. siasabora says:

    @dmulx: ‘affordable …
    @dmulx: ‘affordable health’ my ass! do you propose the villagers to pay for insurance using raw maize, milk or tea leaves? Oh ni tribalism! We being realists…first create jobs, create markets and stop this BS -ing ignorant villagers! What has stopped Kalonzo 20+ years in parliament tabling the bill? He is VP ! He does not Ngilu to write English does he?

  16. karuitha says:

    remember she was …
    remember she was just the other health minister and what did she do? all. just like she is doing in the water ministry.

  17. karuitha says:

    Charity, why didnt …
    Charity, why didnt you do enough when you minister of Health? all you did was leave the health ministry suffocating in corruption by hiring unqualified Kambas to run departments. stick to your water ministry, where again you are failing Kenyans.

  18. dmulx says:

    Why do people have …
    Why do people have to tribalize everything in Kenya. Ignorance and stupidity is the only common factor present in the comments below. Affordable health care is a noble idea and should be embraced.

  19. freegastanker1 says:

    Is Kalonzo Musyoka …
    Is Kalonzo Musyoka trying to seduce Ngilu? What’s going on here? let’s pass that Anti-Corruption bill and arrest Charlity Ngilu first for the lost millions in her ministry! It can be done!

  20. siasabora says:

    FYI those KICC …
    FYI those KICC crowds you saw are Funeral Gatherings…nothing to do with medical bills mostly! They planning to transport their dead relatives n friends who have already given up their souls and family property to millionaire private doctors!

  21. siasabora says:

    People Mrs Ngilu …
    People Mrs Ngilu suffer because of inept leadership like yours- bickering all time! Why would 800 Million vanish in Water Ministry yet you have the audacity to stand there with Kalonzo, two hypocrites, and talk about my people suffering? You made them suffer!

  22. siasabora says:

    Lol…BO copycats. …
    Lol…BO copycats. Now if farmers in Machakos can not sell their produce how in the world can they afford regular insurance premiums? We are a third World Country. If the rich like VP Kalonzo, Millionaire Ministers like Ngilu pay taxes then Free Health Care would be available to all! First pass an Anti-Corruption Bill where Kenya publicly hangs corrupt GoK officials!
