    Wow – so many other …
    Wow – so many other governments care about AMERICAN HEALTH CARE ! LOL – Seems like socialism wants to take root in America, ain’t happening, as we continue to train children to never give in to a totally gov run socialist system, like Canada or UK.

    any small …
    any small improvement to our current hc would be a blessing but in the end uhc is what is needed.Patients in Canada with life threatening illness are given TOP PRIORITY.Nurses in Canada check your pulse NOT your pocketbook or your credit card.

  3. CrowdPleeza says:

    As far as improving …
    As far as improving private care competition. Wouldn’t it help if more Americans could buy coverage across state lines(with some regulations if needed)? I heard a doctor say that Americans would have better insurance if each American could get a plan that covers their specific needs vs having to pay for coverages they don’t actually need in their plans.

    A big chunk of …
    A big chunk of those 300 mill dont need free healthcare(ie wealthy),and dont forget guest workers,and illegal migrants who are NOT citizens of this country,who still get treated at our hospitals free of charge anyway.But I have a question for you,how does a greedy private insurance provider work for us?We spend more than every other country on hc and yet have the least amount of insured.There is something wrong with that picture.Yet countries with free uhc are healthier and live longer.

  5. CrowdPleeza says:

    Somethings need to …
    Somethings need to be clarfied about U.S healthcare. The U.S isn’t an example of how free market heathcare fails because the U.S doesn’t have a free market system. There is a good amont of gov’t involvement in the U.S system(medicare,medicaid,emergency room care covered by the gov’t).

  6. CrowdPleeza says:

    How would a single …
    How would a single payer system work for 300 million Americans? Wouldn’t it be a huge strain for the U.S gov’t to be the sole provider of insurance for that many people? I think single payer may be better for smaller populated countries. America’s size needs a better multipayer system.

  7. xyresicchick says:

    the reason …
    the reason canadians live longer is because they dont eat themselves to death.

  8. KryptoniteTearDrop says:

    Im an American who …
    Im an American who wants Canadian style uhc(i.e. smart health care coverage),but in the United States its considered unpatriotic to want “SOCIALIST” government run healthcare.

    ….continued …
    ….continued but at the same time we out live Americans by years. If our care is so terrible then how come we live so long?

    Before you post back to me, there is this thing I would like you to try. We call it thinking……… think before posting

  13. SparwoodApple says:

    @firsttakemanhattan …
    @firsttakemanhattan Actually Canadian US tax burden is similiar and the Canadian middle class actually has more disposable income. Not to mention property tax that in some cases are as much as 5 times our property tax rate.

    As for family Doctors, actually as of around 2006 Canada overtook the US in number of family doctors per capita according to the OECD – hence we have more family doctors.

    Now Canadians have some of the highest incidences of major non communicable diseases……….

  14. SparwoodApple says:

    @Caryatides The …
    @Caryatides The average ER wait time in the US is 240ish minutes according to press ganey. According to the CIHI 90% of Canadians wait around this time or less.

    If our care is so terrible then perhaps explaing why we live years longer

  17. justsayess says:

    @firsttakemanhattan …
    @firsttakemanhattan Thank you for ur honesty. BUT the health scare bill in America isnt about health care..it is about MAJOR control over so many parts of our life & freedom including..control of Internet, control of radio talk shows, right to own guns, medical info being given over to our IRS, hooks to link health care to tap our retirements..on & on & on…WE WANT reform but NOT THIS BS!

    “I am srry for you …
    “I am srry for you aunt but what we have is still better then america, i see long wait times but i still see more care and more treatment then you would in america.”

    How do you see more care and treatment in the fact that my aunt had to wait FIVE DAYS to even get a hospital bed?? What you have is better than in America? I’d rather pay the extra $20 to get treated than have to wait for 4 months to get an MRI.

    To all Canadians …
    To all Canadians who keep saying that health care in Canada is FREE: Are you idiots or have you never paid any taxes?
    I live in Ottawa, and I’ve also lived and worked in the US.
    I would rather pay for good insurance than pay 20% more in income taxes and 15% tax on anything other than bare necessities.
    I don’t have a family doctor. I gave up trying to get one after being told too many times that they’re “booked up”. Nobody I know has a family doctor.
    The Canadian system is Very much flawed.

  24. andyx1205 says:

    Indeed. Also, in …
    Indeed. Also, in Canada, if you can’t afford health-care (have financial problems, just lost a job, etc), then health-care is free! So in another words, unlike in America, you don’t go broke in Canada if you need care.

    The …

    The Canadian health care system as a whole, while flawed, is a very humane system.

    -While certain little procedures in certain provinces can have long wait times, the overall wait times in Canada for broad procedures isn’t too bad. For instance, according to Statscan, the average wait for a non emergency surgery in 2003 was about 4 weeks
    -The cost of drugs in Canada are about 1/3 of that of the US
    -Canadians live about five years longer on average
    -Everyone’s covered
