How is the government offering a public option for health insurance any different than offering higher education at a university alongside private institutions?
Are public colleges and universities bad?
Education is an essential part of the infrastructure but health care is not? If you had to choose, would you rather be healthy or educated?
If we are the greatest nation on earth then we should be able to ensure that health care and education are essential to all citizens.
I am an American who questions both public and private health care. It’s obvious that private insurance companies are not capitalized enough to truly handle the health-care of 300 plus million Americans. It’s also obvious that their profit motive gets in the way of being honest. But my experience with socialized medicine (I listened to the horror stories of Canadians while spending a week at a private health clinic in Thornhill Ontario) makes me feel that the public option isn’t the answer either, because honesty, not the superiority of a system is really at the heart of the issue.
For some reason humans think that one system is better than another. This is a fallacy that causes wars and futility. A careful examination of what really works has allowed me to see that it is not a system but the people responsible for a system that makes it work.
Three examples come to mind, the Netherlands, Switzerland and Singapore. Holland is a socialist nation whose people have benefited from a left-wing mentality. Why? Because the people in charge of the system are not bilking it and the citizens of that country get back exactly what they put into it.
Switzerland is, in many ways, the exact opposite of Holland. It’s economically right wing and yet it too has found a system that works. Why? Because the people in charge of the system are Swiss first and capitalists second.
Singapore is a small and prosperous city state surrounded by extreme poverty. Why has it prospered? Because of a man with a vision, its first prime minister, Mr. Lee Quan Yew. This remarkable leader instilled in his people a one for all and an all for one mentality and an honesty that has built a nation able to survive when common sense told sensible people that it shouldn’t.
If America is to survive in the future, 4 things have got to change: its attitude, the American government, its rate of immigration and the elimination an outdated political spectrum that allows the idiots and traitors within it to cause division in its ranks.
The American dream has got to be recognized for what it is, a sales pitch made by crooks and thieves to ensure that every American becomes indentured slaves to a ravenous banking system. The acceptance of this obvious fact would change the American attitude toward itself and what its been told by its leadership.
Treason must once again return to the and the current politicians and corporate businessmen must be weighed on their true merits and not judged on their right wing or left wing rhetoric alone.
This simple return to the thinking of our nation when it was truly great would force OUR government to consider the benefit of the people before that of its corporate and banking masters for the first time since that old Democrat in Republican clothes, Ronnie Reagan, dismantled the America of my youth.
The elimination of legal immigration would return jobs to Americans and end the corporate tyranny that allows thousands of American engineers and computer scientists to lose out to lower paid imported technicians from India and China.
By making a serious effort to close our borders to illegal immigration we would accomplish 4 things: we would make serious inroads to curtailing our drug problem, we would decrease crime and the need to maintain an economically draining prison system, we would save the southwestern part of nation from anarchy and possible annexation by Mexico, and we would stop the constant fragmentation of the American people by race, ethnicity and economic class that is caused by the importation of cheap competition that only benefits the rich and powerful.
And last but not least, by using our common sense to see that the political terms we throw around, liberal, conservative, progressive, right wing, left wing, etc., etc., are outdated and dangerous tools used by the rich, powerful and clever to divide and enslave us.
It’s time that the guy and gal on the street grows up and views the world as really is, without allowing the rhetoric of treasonous dogs blind them to the simple fact that if they don’t change, it won’t matter if America has public health care or not, because it won’t have the wherewithal pay for it.
Yes. Those institutions are supported by taxes. Now the Democrats refuse to call this plan a tax increase. What else would you call it? Education is an essential part of infrastructure. Heath care insurance option is not. Healthcare is though, but an insurance option is not an essential part. And currently without the government doing anything we have healthcare.
Did you read? I said insurance is not. I clearly said healthcare is an essential part of infrastructure. INSURANCE IS NOT.
Let me ask you this. I went to a public university. However, I have student loan debt. Should I have gotten the education for free? If so, send me about 20K.

Public colleges are good but which degree hold more clout? The local community college or an ivy league college?
Which would YOU prefer to have/use?

Private health clinic or Public health clinic?

Private bathroom or Public bathroom?
Can you see the difference now?

Yes. The biggest difference is that public universities are sponsored by the state that the university is in, not the federal government. If states wanted to get the public option, that might be a little different than a nationalized health-care. I hope this clears up the difference.
Also, insurance is not a right of a citizen, and never has been. That is why it is called insurance. You are betting that something might happen to you, so you are willing to pay someone else to help you if you need it. Should everyone in America have the right to a car too? It is very hard to get around without a car, and almost impossible to go to and from work (unless it is close) without one.
