Look aroudn and you will find services for everything. I have heard of laundry services, house cleaning services, dog walking services, courier services, catering services, dating services, even financial services. Yesterday I had my first encounter with paper shredding companies. Of course, after thinking about it, this service makes a lot of sense. When I first heard about this, I have to admit, I only thought of this as a service that individuals would use. My first emotion was shock at the fact that there really was someone out there too lazy to stick their junk mail and private papers in a shredder beside their desk. Of course, it soon became clear that there are many corporations that would have paperword and information too sensitive to keep on hand so it has to be destroyed.
The pharmaceutical company that I was visiting had this large fiberboard containers scattered throughout the building with slots in the top to drop the papers in. These bins were locked and the only key to unlock one of these bins belonged to the company that did the shredding.. The paper shredding services come once or twice a week, remove the bag full of papers and replace it with an empty one. The bag is taken to another location to be destroyed and the cycle begins again.
I suppose the theory behind the paper shredding services is a logical one. For some reason I find it difficult to believe that this method is as secure as just destroying the documents on site. Of course, when I think about that pharmaceutical company I just have to hope that they are just as secure with their drugs.
